Mr. Ed #1

Posted by Sandy Wong on 31 Mar 2003

Welcome to my very first column "Straight From The Horses Mouth" I am of course Mr Ed (pun intended).

Lets begin with a brief introduction of what my columns will be about. My columns will cover pretty much everything, from opinions on PCW's current Champions to the lack of people working angles, it'll all be covered at some stage and I guarantee that all of my opinions on certain subjects will be brutally honest; I won't hold back a thing. So, in time you will learn to love me or hate me.

Now that the introductions are over with, I'll explain what I'll cover in this column. Firstly I'll give a complete rundown of the PCW roster(A-M) with my brutally honest opinions, and then at the end there will be a few interesting tidbits that I'll be sure to rant about, but you'll just have to scroll down and see what they are. So, with no further waiting, lets get started on this rundown.

Akiyama- Until he begins reading the cards and following PCW like a PCW roster member should I just refuse to see him as a credible threat for the PCW Title. Character-wise, he needs to drop the "no selling" thing, it gets old fast and basically crushes the credibility of his opponents. I know he doesn't write his own matches, but hell it's his character and he created him as being practically invincible, so until he starts following PCW and loses the invincible act I don't see him as a credible threat to not only the PCW Title but as a Main Eventer either.

Flaymin Aymin- I've always like Flaymin Aymin, his rps are always hilarious and in cards he is gold- I'm loving the Valet-rama reality TV thing he is doing. Aymin is unlucky, he feuded with El Diablo and Diablo became a Main Eventer, he feuded with Violence Jack and Jack is establishing himself as a Main Eventer, meanwhile Aymin is just stuck in mid card hell. I'm liking the second feud between him and Diablo, it may look as a step down for El Diablo but hopefully this feud will push Flaymin up the card finally, afterall he does deserve to be higher up the card than Tim Walden.

Clyde- To be honest I never thought Clyde would ever become PCW Champion, but surprisingly he was a very dominant and credible Champion. However, since losing the Title at Shanghaied he has done very little, and that is disappointing. He needs to get moving and show that he can still be a Main Eventer. As for the character, I think it needs toning down a little, realism is a must in efedding and Clyde has little of that.

Chet King- For all the newbies reading this Chet was involved in an amazing feud with the White Mexican last year and quickly established himself as an Upper Carder, before disappearing. I'm glad Chet returned and is back in the Upper Card, it's just very disappointing that he didn't stick around in the first place as he could very well have been PCW Champion by now, maybe twice. I'm liking the feuds he is getting involved in, he is doing all the right things to show he is deserving of a shot at the PCW Title. The only quabble I have with him is that damned poser, it is out dated and looks very poor compared to the rest. Surely he deserves a new poser?

Jonathan Drachen- I know very little about Drachen except that his character has really bored me in cards. I'll be honest in saying I haven't read a promo of his yet but will soon enough. I can't say much about him except that he needs to liven his character up, I don't want to fall asleep when reading Turmoil or Fusion.

Lacuna Debris- Another newbie to PCW that I don't know much about, all I really know is that it's a male handler and that "she" hasn't added much in cards at all. I'd like to see more of a gimmick in Lacuna as so far the character seems to have very little to work with. I'm intrigued by her rps, but that's as far as it goes.

DarkStar- When I see the name DarkStar the words "No dedication" pop to mind. Here is a guy that has been in PCW for 2 years and has constantly been touted as a future PCW Champion, but then when his time comes he does nothing with it. DarkStar scarcely rps and recently contributes very little to the shows, yet still keeps his Upper Card placing. I may sound very critical here, but I like DarkStar I really do, but maybe a demotion to the Mid Card is in order to prompt him to start working rather than to sit back and do nothing at all.

Dante Jackson- The man has no character, so how he's gone so far up the card is beyond me. He dropped the Continental Title fast, so maybe that was a sign that he's not ready to be considered a top contender in PCW. Unless he makes his character more three-dimensional I will never consider him a real "playa" in PCW. Dante, you need to work harder to establish your character/gimmick and make it credible, and please no angry black man/racist gimmick, that is way overused.

El Diablo- Everyone seems a bit overly critical of El Diablo for how he acted in receiving multiple title shots late last year by not rping for them. But to be fair to the guy he was obviously suffering from burn out and still worked hard enough to develop a strong character for in cards, and it was successful. I'm pleased he took a break as since his return he has rped like a mad man and is working hard in cards. Maybe going back to working with Aymin was a step back, but then again it's a proven formula and hopefully Diablo will be stronger from his recent experiences in ewrestling.

Enigma- Why was he hired? Is Aymin secretly handling him? Whatever the answers are, he has yet to rp and has only appeared in cards and in Flaymin's rps. To be fair, he has only had one real match he needed to rp for, but as a rookie he should be showing more of an effort on the rp board. He should follow Dorn Tracer's lead and do something, otherwise he should be canned.

Gaz "The Jester" Green- When he was hired I thought "PCW has comedy in Aymin why do we need him?" But he has proven me wrong and has become a very strong character in PCW. But just when it seemed like Nerezza and Gaz Green were going to become serious Upper Carders with their feud, they went back and reformed P.W.A which in my honest opinion took them back to where they were when they first entered PCW. If they want to continue tagging, fair enough but if they want to become superstars in their own they need to be singles wrestlers. Maybe a second feud between them would be stale, so perhaps an amicable parting of ways is in order.

Skylar Green- I've always enjoyed his work, and I'm glad to see he's finally getting the push he has long deserved. The one thing I wasn't a fan of was his retirement as The End only to come back almost instantly as Skylar Green, it just seemed a bit rushed in my opinion, however he is going strong and has a Title to prove it.

Haley Hilton- Another newbie, so I have very little to say. I really don't know who this woman is so I can't really comment, except to say that I'll start reading her rps as soon as I can.

Matt Jackson- Wow, another newbie so yet again I can't really comment. But I will take this moment to say to all newbies that they should rp strongly and make it a priority to get involved in an angle to get their name out there. Again, I will read his promos at a later date.

Jade- Has oodles of talent but needs to work more on an in card presence, that is what she and Lacuna both lack, and as a Tag Team challenging for the Tag Titles they both need to show they can work well in cards. I'm liking the work she puts out on the rp boards but she needs more character depth, other than just being a tough woman, I'd like to see something more to her.

Xavier Kannon- Right now he is the epitome of PCW and has been for the last year. Sure he has taken some time off from rping recently, but he deserved to, and it's nice to see that he is stepping back from the World Title picture to allow others to get involved. His angle with Jeremy "Krayzie" Howard is beginning to take shape and looks interesting, it is helping develop his character further and for a veteran like himself to do that it just shows those Lower Carders in PCW that they need to do the same. I'd like to say a bad word about him, but it is simply impossible to, he's doing a great job and is leading PCW into a very bright and promising future.

Mark Makonie- First entered PCW with Jordan X Shabazz and came in very strongly, but since then his career has dwindled south. To be frank, he hasn't done much since returning and doesn't look like he is going to either. Unless he gets himself stuck into an interesting angle he is just a waste of space on PCW's roster.

That covers the rundown of A-M Roster Members, in my next column you'll find the rundown of N-Z Roster Members.

But now, it's time to bring up a few issues.

1. It seems to me that a lot of the roster doesn’t even bother to read other peoples rps. This is nothing new, believe me I've been here a while and have been guilty of that myself from time to time, but right now it's got to the point where nobody reads anybody else’s rps at all, or for those that do they only read their upcoming opponents rps. This to me is just plain wrong, as in a federation of the calibre that PCW has, everyone should be working together, getting to know one another and reading however many rps they can read. Whenever you're bored go read some PCW rps, whenever you have free time go read some PCW rps, and trust me you will feel a much bigger part of PCW after you've read them.

2. Much like the above, but this time of roster members not even bothering to read the cards- Akiyama you are guilty of this. When you read the cards you get a much better feeling of what is going in PCW, so then you can have actual opinions on certain angles and matches and whatnot, but to not read the cards at all or just to skim through them is a waste to what the matchwriters do. Matchwriters spend a lot of time writing the matches they are assigned and make them as good as can be, just so YOU the readers will like them and feel they did the characters in the matches justice, but when only a few people bother to read them it really isn't worth it. Bear in mind the matchwriters are rpers themselves here, and if anyone who doesn't write matches here did they'd give you the courtesy of reading the match you have written. So just feel lucky to be a part of PCW and remember to read all that you can, it helps you gain more knowledge of the fed you are in and will make you feel a true part of PCW.

Next time, as well as finishing my rundown I will have a few more tidbits at the end, so remember to come back and read on.

This is Mr Ed signing off and you have just heard it Straight From The Horses Mouth.
